Twin Tip

Twin Tip
Are twin tip skis okay on black diamonds and double blacks?
I’m planning on buying twin tip skis this season. I like to downhill ski (black and double black) and I also go to the park sometimes. I’m just wondering if the park twin tips would work if I were to use them for downhill skiing. Not really.
Well, you can. But I doubt you will be happy with that.

Things I noticed:
- Shorter park ski (for nimbleness), curved tail, and forward binding mounting shortens a great deal the effective edge in front, which matters most for speed and stability. So the ski does feel short, slow, and less stable on downhill.
- When carving, the timing and the pop feels different and, at times, the ski annoyingly flaps. Probably because of the foam core material, binding relocation, and different sidecut pattern. I cannot push it to pop too much and I had to get used to different timing and feel.
- Binding risers are good for carving but bad for freestyling. Having gotten used to carving with risers, without them I feel more vibrations on the feet. And I cannot carve as aggressively or I get booted out.
- Minor thing: Less carving capability tempts me to sharpen the edges but then sharp edges hook too much in the park. Kind of a dilemma, eh?

I say don’t get rid off your downhill skis. Get three pairs: park skis, downhill skis, powder skis. They are just different skis. :)
I like the selection on Ebay. I always check them first.
