New To Skiing

If you’re new to skiing here are some pointers.
Here’s a list to help you plan your day on the slopes:
Skiing is an active business so bring some water with you and a couple of snacks for you and the kids.
-Helmets, wrist guards, face and mouth guards, knee and elbow pads, goggles or sunglasses are the standard gear for skiing.
-Always have an extra pair of socks with you. Warm feet definately made a difference to my day. I have a pair made from a moisture wicking type of fabric. Warm ,comfortable and no perspiring.
-I’ve just recently found gloves that have a little pocket inside of the glove where you can fit a heat pack.Fabulous if you really feel the cold like I do.But the proper skiing mitts are worth it. You’ll find you’ll be able to use your fingers as comfortably as you would with a regular pair of gloves
-Goggles are so much more comfortable than sunglasses while you’re active. They don’t fog and won’t slide off. The uv protection is very soothing on the eyes. Get a good pair,or borrow a friends to find out what suits you best before you buy.
-Don’t forget sunscreen. I’ve had and seen some goggle snow tans and dry chapped lips. Lip moisturizer is a good idea.
-And don’t underestimate frostbite.
No need to go out and buy a fortune worth of stuff. There are often rental places close by to ski resorts and slopes. Most assistance will help you out with all the gear you need.They’ll help fit your boots..a good fit goes a long way and get you decked out with the right stuff for the slopes. If you’re contemplating Whistler or Grouse Mountain in Vancouver,you’ll find some really helpful ski rental stores close by on Marine Drive in North Vancouver. There’s even some good used stuff if you’re just starting out and still not sure if this is the sport for you.They will more than likely suggest shorter skiis to start off with. They’re easier to handle at first so go with their suggestions. A friend of mine lent me her skiis for my first lesson.They were the longer skiis and I really struggled. The ski instructor suggested that I hire the shorter skiis and it really made a huge difference for me.
Safety Reminder: Skiing is a very active sport and you burn a lot of calories! At the end of the day, discourage the temptation to go on that last run when you are tired.Always have a friend with you when you go skiing.
