Marker Bindings On Skis

Question about some older Marker bindings?
I just got my first pair of skis from a ski swap and they came with Marker 7.1 bindings. They also have written on the bindings “Selective Control”, “Biometric” and “Logic”. Anyways, at the toe of the binding is a lever that can be moved to a setting of 1, 2 or 3, and no one I talked to can figure out what it does. Anyone know what this setting is for?
Okay. Thanks for the info on the flex pattern. I did a little more research and found the 3 settings to be for “free flex under foot”, “resistance flex underfoot”, and “no flex underfoot”. Could I get a little more explanation on what these mean? As a beginner/intermediate skiing mostly on groomed runs, what setting should I use?That changes the flex pattern of the ski if I remember them right. It changed the tension on the mounting rail so the ski was softer or stiffer depending on what you preferred. I have a set on my rocks skis but they are in Seattle and I’m not.
This was about the same time period that ESS had their VAR binding on the market. The VAR would easily slide from one position to another from center to forward to back with the flip of a lever. This was in the mid 90’s. Lots of fun if someone grabbed your skis when you weren’t looking and moved one forward and one back.

When i was a kid Astro world used to have a snow hill and i thought it was the coolest think ever. I kind of want to see how my 3 year old will act around it.
No there are not any fake snow parks in Houston. Astroworld closed down over 4 years ago. Sorry.

Crossfire Skis

Determining how long of a ski to purchase?
I’m going to buy a set of K2 Crossfire skis for myself, and a set of K2 Sweet Luv skis for my wife. I consider myself an expert skier and my wife almost an intermediate. We do 95% of our skiing in Michigan on piste. I’ve always had the “straight” style skis and with the new style skis I’m not sure how to determine what length of ski we would both need. Please let me know what length you would suggest for both of us and why. Thanks.
Sorry, should have stated this originally, I’m 6′ 195lbs. My wife is about 5′ 5″ and I don’t know…about 130-140? Thanks everybody.
I have had quite a struggle with the notion of going shorter than 180 cm. However, last year I let myself get talked into purchasing a pair of K2 Apache Outlaws that are only 173cm.
Wow!
With the vibration dampers on my bindings (Marker M14 is designed especially for my K2’s and yours), I can let these short skis really rip on the groomed runs and they are smooth as silk. Not a hint of chatter. Ever. Barely roll your knees and lean into your boot and you will turn on a dime. They are a blast in the moguls.
I suggest you stay a little shorter than you may think you should based on the technology of the skis you have been using. I would certainly not go longer than 180 with today’s technology.As long as you invest in the higher end bindings with vibration dampers designed with these skis in mind, they will perform much better than anything you have skied on before.
I am not familiar with the “Sweet Luv” ski. Your wife may not benefit much from the binding vibration dampers yet, but if they are available for this ski, I think it would be good politics to get her the high end bindings too!
P.S.: Height and Weight Addendum:
Also, with today’s technology, unless you are skiing off piste a lot, the length and width are not going to be as critical as they were for older technology based on your height and weight. You should probably be skiing on about a 170cm ski, and your wife on about a 160cm or even a wee tiny shorter if she is going to ski fairly slow.

how to get in shape for cross country skiing in 6 days?
okay soooo yeah i procrastinated and i know i wont be super strong in six days but i’m gonna be on the cross country ski team this year. theres no snow right now where i live so i’m assuming during the first few practices we’ll just be running and doing other core workouts and stufff and i was just wondering what i should do. i’m willing to work out all day for the next six days if i have to. just give me a few exercises to do. thankss
As with all conditioning, start easy and do not over do it. Walk 15 minutes, jog 5, fast walk 5 and repeat. After 1 hour, ice down and wait 2 hours to start over. This should prevent early season muscle damage that will prevent you competing for several weeks. Torn muscles take time to heal.
