Can you use powder skis to race?
Can you do that or can you ski normally with racing skis

You can, but you won’t win. The more surface area a ski has, the more “float” it has in powder, but the slower it will be on groomed runs.
You can ski normally with racing skis, but you’re going to have a work a bit hard in the chop and in powder since the skis aren’t as wide as powder skis. But if you’re going to be largely sticking to the groomers and the areas where there isn’t a lot of powder, then a pair of race skis would work fine.

should i get a ski bag?
I bought my first pairs of skis and I was wondering if I should get a ski bag to transport it to and from the slope. I’m wondering if careful handling is just as good as a bag, or if a bag is good security. Thanks!
And also if I do get the bag, is there any features I should look for that you found make the bag great?

Depends on how you are traveling….
– Inside of your own car. I would not worry about having a ski bag.
– Your own car with a roof rack. Look into getting binding covers to keep salt off of your bindings. Always wipe down your skis when getting home to prevent the edges from rusting.
– Your own car with a roof box/carrier. I would not worry about having a ski bag.
– If you are traveling with a group on a bus. I would get a basic/minimal ski bag for just your poles and skis. Some bags are just nylon, some have additional padding. This will help keep your gear together if someone else is handling it, plus it will help keep your skis from getting dinged up.
– If you are flying. I have been flying with my own gear for about 18 years now. Usually I fly 2 to 3 times a season. I now fly with two bags. A wheeled, padded ski bag and a wheeled “duffel” bag that has a separate pocket in the base for ski boots. Check your airline requirements and pack smart, use a scale at home so you are not surprised at the airport. It is possible to fly with two pairs of skis and still make it under the weight limits, I do it all the time. Also, the wheeled bags make things much more convenient. I hated standing in line, ski bag over the shoulder, losing feeling to my arm! The wheeled “duffel” bag is also a great. The soft shape allows you to stuff it with ski items that are sometimes bulky, but yet don’t weigh much, i.e. down coats, insulated pants, ect. When I get to my destination, I either unpack the skis and put them in the car, or sometimes I bring bungee cords and strap the fully packed ski bag to the roof rack. This makes for one of the easier transitions at the airport to get you to your destination quickly.
Finally, for keeping your skis at home. As I said previously, wipe them down when you get home and try to keep them in a low humidity area. I used to have a family who stored their skis in their barn every summer…..They would bring them in to have them tuned in the fall and it made me almost ill to see all the rust on the edges!
