Twin Tip

Twin Tip
Are twin tip skis okay on black diamonds and double blacks?
I’m planning on buying twin tip skis this season. I like to downhill ski (black and double black) and I also go to the park sometimes. I’m just wondering if the park twin tips would work if I were to use them for downhill skiing. Not really.
Well, you can. But I doubt you will be happy with that.

Things I noticed:
- Shorter park ski (for nimbleness), curved tail, and forward binding mounting shortens a great deal the effective edge in front, which matters most for speed and stability. So the ski does feel short, slow, and less stable on downhill.
- When carving, the timing and the pop feels different and, at times, the ski annoyingly flaps. Probably because of the foam core material, binding relocation, and different sidecut pattern. I cannot push it to pop too much and I had to get used to different timing and feel.
- Binding risers are good for carving but bad for freestyling. Having gotten used to carving with risers, without them I feel more vibrations on the feet. And I cannot carve as aggressively or I get booted out.
- Minor thing: Less carving capability tempts me to sharpen the edges but then sharp edges hook too much in the park. Kind of a dilemma, eh?

I say don’t get rid off your downhill skis. Get three pairs: park skis, downhill skis, powder skis. They are just different skis. :)

Phantom Skis

by whistlerpeek on May.16, 2010, under Mentors and Mentees

I/O engine mount question?

I have a 1987 Phantom fish & ski with a 3.0 OMC engine and a Cobra outdrive. Where the front motor mount attaches to the fiberglass “stringer”, the fiberglass mount has become brittle and the front of the motor has dropped down about 2 inches. The outer hull is not affected, just this piece that the motor mount attaches to. Is this repairable? If so, how do I do it, and with what kind of materials?

the stringer is usually a wood beam covered with several layers of fiberglass. if the stringer is bad(rotted) youwillneed to remove the engine and repair the the stringer. misalignment can cause serious problems with the connection to the outdrive.

Pro Ski

Do all skis have the same bolt pattern to attach bindings?
Im looking to buy a pair of Ninthward Henrik Harlaut Pro skis and I cant find any bindings on their website. So I was wondering if any binding will fit on it. They are twin tips and I will be in the park with them.

Also, if anyone has any opinion on that pair of skis, let me know cuz i cant find any reviews on them >_<

Skis typically don’t have inserts for bindings like snowboards do. It is either an option on custom boards, the skis are designed to be used with riser plates or the ski company has an agreement with a binding company to build models that fit a specific binding. Line had inserts for their pivogy bindings but any binding could be mounted on line skis. Not all binding manufacturers use the same bolt pattern either. The specific positioning of the binding also depends on boot length so multiple sets of inserts would need to be added to accommodate various binding and boot combos. Any binding should fit as long as the brakes are wide enough.

VOICE OF FREEDOM

SALMAN RUSHDIE- “A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it, or offer your own version in return.â€

SAM KEEN –“You come to love not by finding the perfect person but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly.â€

SAM LEVENSON –“Love at first sight is easy to understand, it’s when two people have been looking at each other for a life time that it becomes a miracle.â€

SAM PECKINPAH –“There is a great streak of violence in every human being. If it is not channelled and understood, it will break out in war or in madness.â€

SAMANTABHADRA –“Just as a fire quickly reduces decayed wood to ashes, so does an aspirant who is totally absorbed in the inner self and completely unattached to all external objects shake to the roots, attenuate, and wither away his karma body.â€

SAMAYIKA PATHA –“May the Lord of Lords, who is free from all blemishes like attachment and aversion which hold in tight bondage all embodied beings, who has no need of sense organs, is knowledge itself and eternally independent, be enshrined in my heart. SAMUEL JOHNSON –“If a man does not make new acquaintance as he advances through life, he will soon find himself alone. A man, Sir, should keep his friendship in constant repair.â€

SAMUEL JOHNSON –“So, if you are to speak for people, you must know them, and if you are to respect to people, you must love them.â€

SAMUEL JOHNSON –“The fountain of content must spring up in the mind; and he who has so little knowledge of human nature as to see happiness by changing anything but his own disposition, will waste ; his life in fruitless : efforts, and multiply the grief which he proposes to remove.â€

SAMUEL JOHNSON –“The return of my birthday, if I remember it, fills me with thoughts which it seems to be the general care of humanity to escape.â€

SAMUEL JOHNSON –“The speculator; who is not content with superficial views, harasses himself with fruitless curiosity; and still, as he inquires more, perceives only that he knows less.â€

SAMUEL JOHNSON –“The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.â€

SAROJINI NAIDU –“Beloved, I offer to you in tender allegiance anew/ A bracelet of floss. Let me twist its tassels, vermilion and blue/ and violet, girdle your wrist. Accept this bright gage from my hand, Let your heart its sweet speech understand The ancient high symbol and end/ Is wrought on each gold-threaded strand,/ The fealty of friend unto friend./ A garland how frail of design,/ Our spirit to clasp and entwine/In devotion unstrained and unbroken,/ How slender a circle and sign/ Of secret, deep pledges unspoken.â€

SAROJINI NAIDU –“In noon-tide hours, 0 Love, secure and strong, I need thee not; mad dreams are mine to bind The world to my desire, and hold the wind A voiceless captive to my conquering song. SIMI BAJAJ –“Words cannot express the depth of emotions That a man feels on becoming a father A role that grants him maturity and responsibility A role above that of a son, husband or brother I think of my father with deep affection He gave me roots and also wings I feel grateful for all that he did In shaping my heart, that loves and sings.â€

SIMON AND GARFUNKEL –“Old friends, Old friends Sat on their park bench Like bookends. A newspaper blown through the grass Falls on the round toes On the high shoes Of the old friends. Old friends, Winter companions, The old men Lost in their overcoats, Waiting for the sunset. The sounds of the city, Sifting through the trees, Settle like dust on the shoulders Of the old friends. So we should regard ourselves as part of the natural order, rather than the culmination of it… There’s as much time ahead of us as there has been in

SIR MARTIN REES –“We are the dust of long dead stars. Or, if you want to be less romantic, we are nuclear waste… The most wonderful thing we know about in the universe is life, and that’s the most complicated emergent phenomena we know of.â€
